The fruits of the efforts of the super-humans who developed the discipline of transfusion medicine in India from 1970 to 2000 have been blooming in the country today. Transfusion Medicine is no longer a new or upcoming branch, but rather a branch becoming by choice by the MBBS passed out now.
- Currently, 66 colleges in India are running MD-TM/IHBT course with an annual intake of 199 students.
- Diplomate of the national board also provides this course as DNB in 14 hospitals with 26 yearly seats.
- One college in India also offers a diploma in immunohematology & blood transfusion with two seats.
- Post-doctoral fellowship (PDF) in Transfusion Medicine is also a recognized course, and there are two seats in a college, while PDF in Apheresis is also offered in one seat.
- A post-doctoral certificate course in Apheresis and Blood Component therapy is also an NMC-recognized course, and many colleges have started this course.
- Some institutions also offer paramedical courses like BSc and MSc in Transfusion Medicine.
